At the Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Stockton, Utah, URS works with our Army counterparts to destroy the nation’s and world’s largest stockpile of chemical weapons. The Tooele stockpile accounts for 43 percent of the U.S. chemical weapons repository; consisting of rockets, bombs, projectiles, mortars, and bulk containers full of both nerve and blister agents.
The U.S. Government was required to destroy this stockpile prior to Chemical Weapons Convention deadlines. URS helped the Government meet these objectives by providing efficient, safe chemical weapons demilitarization services.
By the end of agent destruction operations in January 2012, the Tooele disposal facility destroyed over 1.1 million munitions and bulk containers of chemical weapons, containing over 13,500 tons of chemical agent. URS’ Tooele disposal facility is ISO 14001-registered, meaning all work done follows strict environmental management and processing standards. The Tooele site has also earned OSHA Voluntary Protection Program “Star” status for its excellent safety record featuring 17 million safe man-hours worked without a lost workday case. This is currently the longest streak of any National Safety Council Member.
